Are you wanting just one, or do you wish to go into production?

If you only need one, you should be mindful of costs. While an already-available gadget of similar or even greater complexity than the one you're thinking of may be available on the market right now for $50 or less, you need to remember that thousands or even millions of them were made to get the cost that low. The prototype that company started with cost them many thousands of dollars to create. It is a similar prototype that you are after, though Black Box will probably charge an order of magnitude less to create it.

You should not expect to have a device, even a very simple one, created from scratch for less than a few hundred dollars, even if the device contains only $5 in parts. Engineers, while much less greedy than doctors or lawyers, do charge more than auto mechanics for our labor.

If you are hoping for mass production, then there is a chance you can reap a profit. But you need to do very careful market research to make sure there are no patent issues involved and that there is a really good chance people will buy your product. If there are any certifications or testing your product must undergo to become legally marketable, they will be your responsibility. Black Box will provide you or whomever you designate with whatever schematics, drawings, or operational theory you request, but we will not have the testing or certifications done for you.
