Does it need to run on AC line power?

This can be a tricky area. Standard house voltage is quite dangerous. If you are planning a mass-marketed device that plugs into an AC outlet, chances are you will be required to have the device tested and certified by an independent testing agency such as Underwriters Laboratories (i.e. UL Listed).

If you are only needing a single device, be advised that while Black Box will endeavor to design you a safe product incorporating fuses and/or other protective elements, we will not be responsible for any damages of any kind that result from using projects powered by AC line voltage.

That being said, rest assured that none of the many projects the engineers here have created using 120VAC have electrocuted anyone or burned any houses down. We are very careful with line voltage.
